Cheerleading Tryouts! - Thursday, April 11, 2024 - 4:00 pm

The tryout process includes a tryout clinic which will teach and review the skills necessary to prepare the cheerleading hopeful for the actual tryout. The tryout skills required include: Cheer, Dance, Jumps, and Tumbling Please do not let the skills required intimidate you or cause you to feel apprehensive about trying out. These skills will be introduced and practiced at the tryout clinic. Some skills will be instructor led and some skills will be videographed to enable further practice at home before the tryout date. Please wear navy shorts, a white t-shirt, white socks, and white athletic shoes.

Tryout Clinic Dates & Times: Mon-Wed April 8-10 – 6:30-7:45am

Cheerleading Tryouts: Thursday April 11 – 4:00 - 6:00pm

All previous and future cheerleaders are required to participate in tryouts.

Juniors & Seniors - Talent Show Sign-Up for the after-banquet party - deadline to sign up is TODAY March 15!  Please fill out the google form in your email if you want to be eligible to perform. Don’t miss your chance at winning a cash prize!


State Speech results: State speech was a blast. We had 13 students go, and they all did awesome.  Here are the ratings. “Little House on the Prairie” musical is this week!  We are using Bound for tickets. You will be able to pick the seats that you want. Go into Unity Christian Bound ticketing, choose the date/performance you want to attend, then click on the ticketing link which will take you to the checkout process. Adults are $13, students K-12 are $8.

Tulip Festival Workers: TULIP FESTIVAL OCCS TENT- Students, do you want to earn some extra money during Tulip Festival (May 16-18)? You may sign up to have your name listed to work for hire and earn $50.00 a shift (typically 3.5-4 hours). (YOU MAY ONLY SIGN UP FOR AFTERNOON SHIFTS AS UNITY WILL HAVE CLASSES IN THE MORNING!!) If you are interested, please text your name, age, and phone number to Kim Philipsen at 712-395-1519 by Monday, April 1. This list of workers will be distributed to families of OCCS the week of April 15; they will then contact you directly. Please note: students ages 14 to 18 years old may only work certain jobs in the tent. The OCCS families will be aware of what jobs those are. If you have any questions, please call Kim. Thank you!


NEW HIRE ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are pleased to announce the following new hires for the 24-25 school year:

Colin Kaemingk - new social studies teacher. Originally from Washington, Colin student taught under Mr. Holwerda and Ms. Talsma during the Spring of 2022. For the last two years, he has been a middle school and high school social studies teacher in Asuncion, Paraguay. 


Ricky Rietveld - new math teacher. Originally from California, Richard will be graduating Dordt this year after completing his student teaching at LeMars High School. 


Josh Van Kempen - returning in the following roles:

  • Joining Coach Swedorski on football staff. 

  • Assisting Doug and Terry in building maintenance and custodial duties. 

  • Joining Terry and Cody in athletic event management duties.  

  • Teaching an elective PE class that focuses on personal fitness and strength and conditioning.  

  • Partnering with Seth in the supervision of the weight room before and after school.  


EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Unity Christian is seeking to hire a kitchen employee for the remainder of the 23-24 school year, and beyond if desired.  The hours of this position are 10am to 2pm daily. Our team is open to hiring someone who can work either 3,4 or 5 days a week.
